Target Information
PRKG1 (cGMP-dependent serine/threonine kinase) plays a critical role in:
- Relaxation of vascular smooth muscle
- Inhibition of platelet aggregation
- Regulation of cardiovascular and neuronal functions
- Modulation of cell growth
The gene is strongly expressed in smooth muscle, platelets, cerebellar Purkinje cells, hippocampal neurons, and the lateral amygdala.
Isoforms Iα and Iβ share cGMP-binding and catalytic domains but differ in leucine/isoleucine zipper and autoinhibitory sequences, resulting in distinct dimerization substrates and kinase activity.
