Target Information
This gene encodes a transmembrane protein localized in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). It is involved in the degradation of misfolded proteins and may play a role in inflammation control. The protein facilitates the transfer of misfolded proteins from the ER to the cytosol for proteasomal degradation in a ubiquitin-dependent manner.
It is a selenoprotein containing the rare amino acid selenocysteine (Sec), encoded by the UGA codon. The 3′ UTR of selenoprotein mRNAs includes a SECIS element required for recognition of UGA as a Sec codon.
