Product Specific Information

This OV9A2 monoclonal antibody reacts with human CD59 (Protectin), a GPI-linked membrane glycoprotein homologous to the murine Ly-6 superfamily. CD59 is expressed on all human lymphocytes, monocytes, granulocytes, erythrocytes, and non-hematopoietic cells including endothelial cells and neurons.
CD59 binds complement components C8 and C9, inhibiting membrane attack complex assembly and complement-mediated cytolysis. It interacts with CD2 to modulate T-cell adhesion and activation. Altered CD55/CD59 expression is observed in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE).
Crossblocking studies indicate OV9A2 binds the same epitope as MEM-43.

Target Information

CD59 (Protectin) is an 18–20 kDa GPI-anchored inhibitor of the membrane attack complex (MAC), protecting autologous cells from complement-mediated lysis. It associates with the C5b-8 complex to prevent cytolytic pore formation.
CD59 also acts as a low-affinity ligand for CD2, contributing to T-cell costimulation and signal transduction. Mutations cause CD59 deficiency, leading to hemolytic anemia, thrombosis, and cerebral infarction. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants exist.
