Target Information
MAP3K5 (ASK1) is a serine/threonine kinase abundantly expressed in human heart and pancreas. It is activated by extracellular stimuli such as cytokines, growth factors, and environmental stresses. ASK1 (Apoptosis Signal-Regulating Kinase 1) activates two MAPKK subgroups, MKK4 and MKK6, which in turn activate JNK and p38 MAP kinases. ASK1/MAPKKK5 activation occurs via TNFR and Fas through TRAF family and Daxx protein interactions. Overexpression induces apoptotic cell death, while inactive ASK1 inhibits TNF-α-induced apoptosis. ASK1 is expressed in various human and mouse tissues.
