Target Information
Apolipoproteins are protein components of plasma lipoproteins. The apolipoprotein C gene family encodes four homologous proteins designated apoC-I to -IV, which modulate the metabolism of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins.
- ApoC-I: Mapped to chromosome 19q13.2, expressed in the liver, activated during monocyte differentiation.
- ApoC-II: Mapped to chromosome 19q13.2, encodes a 79 amino acid protein, cofactor for lipoprotein lipase activation.
- ApoC-III: Mapped to chromosome 11q23, delays catabolism of triglyceride-rich particles by inhibiting lipoprotein lipase and hepatic lipase.
- ApoC-IV: Mapped to chromosome 19q13.2, encodes a 127 amino acid protein primarily expressed in the liver.
