Target Information
CARS (Cysteinyl-tRNA synthetase) encodes a class 1 aminoacyl-tRNA synthetase responsible for catalyzing the aminoacylation of cysteine to its corresponding tRNA. Located near the imprinted gene domain of 11p15.5, a tumor-suppressor region, alterations in this locus are linked to Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, Wilms tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma, adrenocortical carcinoma, and various cancers including lung, ovarian, and breast. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms.
