This antibody detects endogenous levels of STAT5A only when phosphorylated at Serine 780.

Target Information

STAT5 alpha is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases, forming homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the cell nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5 alpha mediates responses to ligands such as IL-2, IL-3, IL-7, GM-CSF, erythropoietin, thrombopoietin, and various growth hormones. Activation of STAT5 alpha, particularly in myeloma and lymphoma with TEL/JAK2 fusion, is independent of cell stimulus and essential for tumorigenesis. The mouse STAT5 alpha induces BCL2L1/BCL-X(L) expression, indicating an anti-apoptotic role. STAT5 alpha and STAT5 beta share 96% sequence similarity and are co-expressed in most tissues, with differential expression in muscle and mammary tissues. STAT5 alpha is critically involved in reproduction, lactation, immune function, and somatic growth.
