Target Information
Siglecs are sialic acid-binding lectins of the immunoglobulin superfamily that are mainly expressed in cells of the hematopoietic system.
Siglec11 specifically binds to alpha2-8-linked sialic acids and is expressed on macrophages rather than peripheral blood leukocytes.
It shares high homology with Siglec10 in the extracellular domain but differs in the cytoplasmic domain, suggesting gene duplication and recombination in its evolution.
Upon pervanadate treatment, Siglec11 becomes tyrosine-phosphorylated and associates with SHP-1 and SHP-2.
At least five isoforms of Siglec11 are known to exist.
