Target Information
Ketoprofen is a propionic acid derivative and a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory agent (NSAIA) with analgesic and antipyretic properties. Its anti-inflammatory effects are primarily due to inhibition of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), reducing prostaglandin synthesis and thereby decreasing pain, fever, and inflammation.
It also inhibits COX-1, which may contribute to gastrointestinal side effects. Additional actions include anti-bradykinin activity and lysosomal membrane stabilization. Antipyretic effects may result from hypothalamic modulation, leading to vasodilation and heat dissipation.
