Target Information

Estrogen Receptors (ER) belong to the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. They act as ligand-activated transcription factors that, upon estrogen binding, dimerize and bind to estrogen response elements (EREs) in DNA to regulate gene expression via coactivators or corepressors.
Two forms of ER exist—alpha (ESR1) and beta (ESR2)—with multiple alpha isoforms (66, 53, 47, and 35 kDa). ERs are widely expressed across tissues and play key roles in sexual development, reproduction, and bone health. They are also implicated in diseases such as breast cancer, endometrial cancer, and osteoporosis.
