Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the large DEAD-box protein family, defined by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif, and exhibits ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. This protein shows high RNA-independent ATPase activity and is stimulated by both RNA and DNA, unlike most DEAD-box helicases. It functions in both nucleus and cytoplasm, contributing to transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Misregulation of this gene is linked to tumorigenesis. A paralog exists on the Y chromosome, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome. Alternative splicing produces multiple transcript variants.
