Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene belongs to the large DEAD-box protein family, characterized by the conserved Asp-Glu-Ala-Asp (DEAD) motif and ATP-dependent RNA helicase activity. It exhibits RNA-independent ATPase activity and is stimulated by both RNA and DNA. DDX3 functions in both the nucleus and cytoplasm, contributing to transcriptional regulation, mRNP assembly, pre-mRNA splicing, mRNA export, translation, cellular signaling, and viral replication. Misregulation of DDX3 has been implicated in tumorigenesis. The gene has a paralog on the Y chromosome (DDX3Y), and related pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 4 and X. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
