Target Information
Neuropilin 1 (NRP1) is a 923 amino acid membrane-bound coreceptor belonging to the neuropilin family. It contains two CUB domains, two F5/8 type C domains, and a MAM domain. NRP1 forms a heterodimer with NRP2 and binds to plexin (PLXNB1) to form semaphorin receptors.
Expressed primarily in the nervous system, NRP1 is involved in cardiovascular development, angiogenesis, axon guidance, neuronal circuit formation, cell survival, neuronal migration, and organogenesis.
It functions as a receptor for semaphorins and VEGF, regulating VEGF-induced angiogenesis. NRP1 may also play a role in advanced prostate carcinoma and breast cancer progression.
