| Background | This gene encodes a serine/threonine-protein kinase that plays a central role in mitosis. It functions by phosphorylating members of the mitotic checkpoint complex and activating the spindle checkpoint. It also inhibits activation of the anaphase promoting complex/cyclosome and may function in DNA damage response. Mutations are associated with aneuploidy and several cancers.
