Background
BCL2 (apoptosis regulator BCL2) is a human gene encoding an integral outer mitochondrial membrane protein that blocks apoptotic cell death in certain cells such as lymphocytes. Constitutive expression of BCL2, such as translocation to the immunoglobulin heavy chain locus, is associated with follicular lymphoma. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
