Background
Sera from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) often contain antibodies that react with the normal cellular SSA2 protein. RO60 is an RNA-binding protein that associates with small cytoplasmic Y RNAs, stabilizing them from degradation. It is phosphorylated upon DNA damage, likely by ATM or ATR. The protein belongs to the Ro 60 kDa family and contains one TROVE domain. It forms complexes with PUF60 and Y5 RNA and interacts with RIP11.
