Histone H3 is one of the DNA-binding proteins found in chromatin of all eukaryotic cells. Along with other core histones, it binds DNA to form nucleosomes. Histones are central to transcription regulation, DNA repair, replication, and chromosomal stability.
Post-translational modifications of histone H3, including methylation, acetylation, and phosphorylation, influence chromatin structure and gene expression by modulating transcription factor binding.
