CDC25A는 CDC25 인산화효소 패밀리에 속하며, 인간 세포에는 CDC25A, CDC25B, CDC25C의 세 가지 유전자가 존재합니다. 이들은 세포주기 각 단계에서 서로 다른 기능을 수행합니다.
CDC25A는 세포주기의 G1과 S 단계 진행에 필요하며, cyclin-dependent kinase CDC2의 인산기를 제거하여 활성화합니다. DNA 손상 시 CDC25A는 특이적으로 분해되어 염색체 이상이 있는 세포의 분열 진행을 억제합니다. CDC25A는 온코진으로 알려져 있으나, 발암 과정에서의 구체적 역할은 아직 명확히 규명되지 않았습니다.
