Target Information
The A-kinase anchor proteins (AKAPs) are a group of structurally diverse proteins that bind to the regulatory subunit of protein kinase A (PKA) and localize the holoenzyme to discrete cellular regions.
This gene encodes an AKAP family member expressed in endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and osteosarcoma cells. It associates with kinases A and C, phosphatase, and functions as a scaffold protein in signal transduction.
AKAP12 and RII PKA colocalize at the cell periphery and are related to cell growth. Antibodies to this protein may be produced in patients with myasthenia gravis.
Alternative splicing results in two transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
