Antibody detects endogenous levels of Myelin Basic Protein (MBP) only when phosphorylated at Thr232.

Target Information

The protein encoded by the classic MBP gene is a major constituent of the myelin sheath of oligodendrocytes and Schwann cells in the nervous system. MBP-related transcripts are also present in bone marrow and the immune system, arising from the long MBP gene (Golli-MBP) that contains three additional upstream exons.
Alternative splicing from Golli and MBP transcription start sites produces two sets of MBP-related transcripts and gene products:

• Golli mRNAs: Contain three unique exons spliced in-frame to one or more MBP exons, encoding hybrid proteins with N-terminal Golli sequences linked to MBP sequences.
• MBP-only transcripts: Contain only MBP exons and produce the well-characterized myelin basic proteins.

This complex gene structure is conserved among species, suggesting that the MBP transcription unit is an integral part of the Golli transcription unit, important for gene function and regulation.
