MA5-17116 detects MAP2 with a predicted molecular weight of approximately 199 kDa.
Target Information
MAP2 (Microtubule Associated Protein 2) exists in two high molecular weight forms (MAP2a and MAP2b) and a low molecular weight form. Its expression is developmentally regulated, and multiple forms arise by alternative splicing of a single gene.
MAP2 plays a crucial role in microtubule assembly, an essential step in neurogenesis. In rat and mouse, MAP2 products are neuron-specific cytoskeletal proteins enriched in dendrites, contributing to dendritic shape stabilization during neuron development.
MAP2 is useful for studies of neuronal structure in normal and malignant brain tissue and in degenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s Disease (AD).
