Target Information
Mammalian mitochondrial ribosomes (mitoribosomes) are responsible for protein synthesis within the mitochondrion. The mitoribosomes have a 4:1 protein-to-RNA ratio and consist of two subunits, 28S and 39S. The protein sequences of these subunits vary significantly across species, making homology-based identification difficult.
MRP-S35 (mitochondrial ribosomal protein S35), also known as MDS023, MRPS28, or HDCMD11P, is a 323-amino-acid protein localized in the mitochondrion as part of the 28S ribosomal subunit. It functions with other MRPs to mediate mitochondrial protein synthesis. Two alternatively spliced isoforms exist, and the gene is located on human chromosome 10, which contains over 1,200 genes and represents approximately 4.5% of the human genome.
