BEST3는 BEST1, BEST2, BEST4를 포함하는 베스트로핀(anion channel) 단백질 패밀리에 속합니다. BEST1은 vitelliform macular dystrophy (VMD)와 관련된 유전자로 알려져 있습니다. Bestrophins는 트랜스멤브레인 단백질로, 방향족 잔기가 풍부한 영역과 invariant arg-phe-pro (RFP) 모티프를 포함합니다. 이 유전자군은 8개의 RFP-TM 도메인 부위를 암호화하는 엑손 구조가 거의 동일하며, 엑손-인트론 경계 역시 고도로 보존되어 있습니다. 각 BEST 유전자는 고유한 3’-말단 영역을 가집니다.
