Target Information
Gross cystic disease of the breast is a benign premenopausal disorder characterized by cystic lesions formed from excessive apocrine secretions. The cystic fluid contains glycoproteins including Gross Cystic Disease Fluid Protein-15 (GCDFP15), a unique 15 kDa monomer. GCDFP15 is found in apocrine epithelia, lacrimal, ceruminous, Moll’s glands, and serous cells of the submandibular, tracheal, bronchial, sublingual, and minor salivary glands. GCDFP15 and prostate-specific antigen are co-expressed in androgen receptor-positive breast tumors.
