Target Information
RYBP is a component of a Polycomb group (PcG) multiprotein PRC1-like complex, essential for maintaining transcriptionally repressive states of many genes, including Hox genes, throughout development.
This complex acts via chromatin remodeling and histone modification, mediating monoubiquitination of histone H2A at Lys-119, resulting in heritable chromatin changes.
RYBP contributes to X-chromosome silencing in females and may recruit the complex to target sites.
It inhibits ubiquitination and degradation of TP53, thus regulating transcription of TP53 target genes and apoptosis-related proteins such as FANK1.
RYBP may also function as a transcriptional repressor and DNA-binding protein, playing a role in tumor growth and metastasis suppression in breast cancer by down-regulating SRRM3.
