Target Information
The melanoma-associated antigen (MAGE) family consists of antigens recognized by cytotoxic T lymphocytes. MAGE genes were initially isolated from various tumors and are known for their tumor-specific expression in adult tissues, making them valuable targets for cancer immunotherapy.
MAGE genes encode tumor-rejection antigens expressed in tumors of different histologic types and in normal testis and placenta.
MAGE-B18 (melanoma-associated antigen B18) is a 343 amino acid protein containing one MAGE domain and may be involved in tumorigenesis. The MAGE-B18 gene maps to human chromosome X, which contains approximately 153 million base pairs and over 1,000 genes.
