Target Information

Kcnb2 (Kv2.2) encodes a voltage-gated potassium channel that plays a key role in regulating neuronal membrane excitability. Variations in K+ channel expression and density influence action potential waveforms and repetitive firing in different neuronal types.
Delayed rectifier-type (IK) channels, including Kv1.5, Kv2.1, and Kv2.2, are found in neuronal somata, proximal dendrites, and various non-neuronal cells such as pancreatic islet, alveolar, and cardiac cells.
Kv2.1 and Kcnb2 form distinct K+ channel populations, primarily mediating IK in superior cervical ganglion cells. Functionally, Kcnb2 regulates voltage-dependent potassium ion permeability across excitable membranes.
Diseases associated with KCNB2 include Brugada Syndrome.
