Gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)는 중추신경계의 주요 억제성 신경전달물질로, GABAA 수용체(GABAA-R) 아형과 연관된 Cl⁻ 채널의 개방을 통해 막의 과분극을 유도합니다.
GABAA-R은 진정제, 항불안제, 수면제 등 다양한 약물의 주요 치료 표적이며, 간질, 불안, 우울, 약물 남용 등 여러 질환과 관련이 있습니다.
이 수용체는 다중 소단위체 복합체로 구성되어 있으며, α, β, γ 등의 여러 아형과 스플라이싱 변형이 존재합니다.
γ 소단위체의 공동 발현은 벤조디아제핀 조절에 필수적이며, β 소단위체의 인산화는 GABAA-R 기능 조절에 영향을 줍니다.
