Target Information
Class II PI3 kinases, including PIK3C2B, phosphorylate the 3 position of PI or PI4P. Though less studied than class I PI3 kinases, class II enzymes are involved in receptor-mediated cellular processes such as insulin signaling, neuronal survival, and growth factor signaling.
Protein kinases transfer phosphate groups from ATP to substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. They regulate metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation.
With over 500 gene products, the protein kinase family is one of the largest in eukaryotes, classified into 8 major groups based on sequence comparison of tyrosine (PTK) or serine/threonine (STK) kinase domains.
