Target Information
The Class II PI3 kinases, including PIK3C2B, phosphorylate the 3 position of PI or PI4P. Although not as well studied as Class I PI3 kinases, Class II enzymes are associated with diverse receptor-mediated cellular processes such as insulin signaling, neuronal survival, and growth factor signaling.
Protein kinases transfer phosphate groups from donors (typically ATP) to acceptor amino acids in substrate proteins, mediating signal transduction in eukaryotic cells. They regulate metabolism, transcription, cell cycle progression, cytoskeletal rearrangement, apoptosis, and differentiation. The protein kinase family includes over 500 gene products and is classified into 8 major groups based on catalytic domain sequence comparisons.
