Target Information
Interleukin 2 (IL-2) is an immuno-modulatory cytokine critical for the proliferation of activated T cells and the differentiation of B cells, natural killer cells, monocytes, and macrophages. IL-2 signals through the IL-2 receptor (IL-2R), a heterotrimeric complex whose gamma chain is shared by IL-4 and IL-7. The IL-2 gene exhibits monoallelic expression in mature thymocytes, representing a unique regulatory mechanism for precise gene control. Disruption of IL-2-like genes in mice leads to ulcerative colitis-like disease, underscoring its essential role in immune responses.
