RP-43098 contains native bovine Activated Protein C (Dansyl-EGR-CK) protein.
RP-43098 may be used as a positive control in many immunological assays.
Target Information
Protein C is a vitamin K-dependent plasma glycoprotein that is cleaved to its activated form by the thrombin-thrombomodulin complex. Activated Protein C contains a serine protease domain and degrades activated coagulation factors V and VIII.
It is produced in the liver as a 62 kDa proenzyme and activated by thrombin bound to an endothelial receptor. The active enzyme (55 kDa) inhibits blood coagulation by cleaving factors Va and VIIIa.
Normal concentrations in human plasma are approximately 1–3 ng/mL for the active enzyme and around 3 µg/mL for the proenzyme due to rapid turnover.
Mutations in the Protein C gene are associated with thrombophilia, neonatal purpura fulminans, and recurrent venous thrombosis.
