Target Information
Bnc1 is a 994 amino acid transcription factor specific for squamous epithelium and keratinocytes at an early stage of terminal differentiation. It is a zinc finger protein with three separated pairs of zinc fingers and a nuclear localization signal. Bnc1 shuttles between the nucleus and cytoplasm depending on the proliferative potential of the cell. It is expressed in the basal cell layer of the epidermis, hair follicles, and abundantly in germ cells of testis and ovary, with lower expression in thymus, spleen, mammary glands, placenta, brain, and heart. It plays a regulatory role in keratinocyte proliferation and rRNA transcription, and contributes to the differentiation of spermatozoa and oocytes.
