Target Information
GRK1 belongs to the guanine nucleotide protein-coupled receptor kinase (GRK) family, a subfamily of serine/threonine kinases. It phosphorylates rhodopsin to initiate deactivation. Phosphorylation promotes arrestin binding, which terminates receptor signaling. GRK1 is farnesylated for membrane association and can be inhibited by recoverin, a calcium-binding protein.
Diseases associated with GRK1 dysfunction include Oguchi Disease-2 and Hereditary Night Blindness.
