Target Information
Ki-67 is a nuclear protein expressed during various stages of the cell cycle, particularly during late G1, S, G2, and M phases.
It contains a forkhead associated (FHA) domain that enables association with euchromatin at the perichromosomal layer, centromeric heterochromatin, and the nucleolus.
Ki-67 exhibits cell cycle–dependent localization: perinucleolar in G1, nuclear matrix–associated in G2, and chromosomal in M phase.
It serves as a proliferation marker, absent in G0 but increasing from G1 through mitosis.
Ki-67 antibodies are widely used to assess proliferative activity in neoplasms, correlating with tumor grade and growth fraction.
In neuroscience, Ki-67 is also used as a marker of neuronal proliferation and cell cycling.
