Target Information

Laminins are extracellular matrix glycoproteins, major noncollagenous constituents of basement membranes. They play roles in cell adhesion, differentiation, migration, signaling, neurite outgrowth, and metastasis. Laminin effects are mediated through integrin and non-integrin laminin-binding receptors.
The gene encodes a high-affinity, non-integrin laminin receptor 1, also known as 67 kD laminin receptor, 37 kD laminin receptor precursor (37LRP), or p40 ribosome-associated protein. Its sequence is highly conserved, indicating key biological functions.
Expression is elevated in colon carcinoma and lung cancer cells, correlating with invasive and metastatic phenotypes. Multiple pseudogene copies exist, likely from retropositional events. Two alternatively spliced variants encode the same protein.
