Target Information
This gene encodes coagulation factor III, a cell surface glycoprotein that enables cells to initiate the blood coagulation cascade. It functions as the high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII, forming a complex that catalyzes initiation of the coagulation protease cascade via limited proteolysis.
Unlike other cofactors, which circulate as inactive precursors, this factor is a potent initiator when expressed on cell surfaces. It has three distinct domains: extracellular, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic.
No congenital deficiency of this protein has been described.
