Interleukin-4 (IL-4)은 활성화된 T 세포에서 생성되는 면역 조절 사이토카인으로, interleukin-4 receptor의 리간드로 작용합니다. IL-4는 광범위한 생물학적 활성을 가지며, IL13과의 수용체 공유로 인해 기능적 중복성을 보입니다. STAT6은 IL-4 신호전달 경로에서 중요한 역할을 수행합니다. IL-4 유전자는 IL-3, IL-5, IL-13, CSF2와 함께 염색체 5q의 사이토카인 유전자 클러스터에 위치하며, IL13과 인접해 있습니다. IL-4, IL13, IL5 유전자는 약 120 kb 범위의 장거리 조절 요소에 의해 조절됩니다. IL-4 delta 2는 알려진 스플라이스 변이체입니다.
