HMBOX1은 염색체 8p12.3과 8p21.1 경계 부근에 위치하며, 인간, 생쥐, 쥐, 닭, Xenopus laevis에서 높은 보존성을 보입니다.
HMBOX1::EGFP 융합 단백질은 세포질에서 더 많이 축적되며, HMBOX1은 전사 억제 인자로 작용합니다.
인간 HMBOX1은 18개 조직에서 발현되며, 특히 췌장에서 높은 발현을 보입니다.
생쥐에서는 췌장뿐 아니라 대뇌피질, 해마, 시상하부에서도 발현이 관찰됩니다.
