FAM3A는 새로운 사이토카인 유사 유전자 패밀리에 속하며, 구조 기반 탐색을 통해 발견된 네 개의 유전자(FAM3A, FAM3B, FAM3C, FAM3D)를 포함합니다. 이들은 각각 224–235 아미노산 길이의 단백질을 암호화하며, 소수성 리더 서열을 가집니다. Northern 분석 결과 FAM3A와 FAM3C는 대부분의 조직에서 발현되며, FAM3B는 췌장에서, FAM3D는 태반에서 높은 발현을 보입니다. 면역조직화학 분석에서 FAM3A는 특히 모세혈관을 포함한 혈관 내피에서 강하게 발현됩니다.
