Target Information

The urokinase-type plasminogen activator receptor (uPAR) is a key molecule regulating cell-surface plasminogen activation and plays an important role in both normal and pathological processes.
Human PLAUR cDNA encodes 335 amino acids, including a 22-residue signal peptide and a hydrophobic C-terminal portion. It forms a highly glycosylated ~50 kDa protein anchored to the plasma membrane via glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage.

PLAUR (UPAR) interacts with the carbohydrate-binding domain of SELL on neutrophil membranes, analogous to its association with β2 integrins. PLAUR-mediated calcium mobilization is SELL-dependent. UPAR mRNA levels correlate with the invasive potential of endometrial carcinomas, showing a 33-fold increase in advanced stages compared to normal tissue.

UPAR protein expression correlates positively with recurrence and mortality rates in endometrial cancer patients, suggesting its potential as a prognostic marker for advanced endometrial cancer.
