Background
Protein kinase C (PKC) zeta is a member of the PKC family of serine/threonine kinases involved in cellular processes such as proliferation, differentiation, and secretion. Unlike classical PKC isoenzymes, PKC zeta activity is independent of calcium and diacylglycerol but dependent on phosphatidylserine. It is insensitive to typical PKC inhibitors and cannot be activated by phorbol ester. PKC zeta has a single zinc finger module, distinguishing it from other PKC isoenzymes. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms.
