Target Information
The kelch-repeat protein family is a recently discovered group of actin-binding proteins characterized by tandemly arranged motifs of about 50 amino acids. Members of this family are cytoskeletal proteins involved in various cellular processes such as actin cytoskeleton interaction, cytoplasmic sequestration of transcription factors, and cell morphology regulation.
KLHL5, identified during large-scale sequencing of a human fetal brain cDNA library, shows high identity with Drosophila kelch protein and other family members. A novel splicing variant, KLHL5b, exhibits specific expression patterns across multiple tissues.
