Target Information
Thymidine Phosphorylase (PD-ECGF), also known as gliostatin, is a platelet-derived endothelial growth factor. In the presence of inorganic orthophosphate, it catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine into their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate.
This protein is chemotactic and mitogenic for endothelial cells, acts as a non-heparin binding angiogenic factor present in platelets, and plays a role in the activation of fluoropyrimidines—cytotoxic agents used in cancer treatment.
