Target Information
Guanine nucleotide-binding proteins (G proteins) form a large family of signal-transducing molecules composed of alpha, beta, and gamma subunits. The alpha subunit binds guanine nucleotide, hydrolyzes GTP, and interacts with receptor and effector molecules. G protein families include Gs and Gi (regulators of adenylate cyclase), Go (abundant in brain), and transducin-1 and -2 (involved in phototransduction in retinal rods and cones).
