Product Specific Information
ABS 033-10-02 detects the amidated N-terminus of GLP-1(7-37) and GLP-1(7-36) in human samples.
This antibody has been successfully used in ELISA procedures. It binds the free N-terminus of GLP-1(7-37) and GLP-1(7-36)amide and shows less than 0.2% cross-reactivity with GLP-1(9-36)amide, glucagon, and human GIP.
Cross-reactivity is approximately 0.25% with GLP-1(1-37), ~6% with human GLP-2, and ~50% with exendin-4.
Target Information
GCG (Glucagon) is also known as GLP1. Glucagon is a 29-amino acid pancreatic hormone that counteracts insulin’s glucose-lowering action by stimulating glycogenolysis and gluconeogenesis.
It is mapped to chromosome 2q36–2q37. GLP1, encoded by the preproglucagon molecule (codons 7–37), renders pancreatic beta-cells glucose-competent and may be useful in the treatment of noninsulin-dependent diabetes mellitus.
GLP1 is a potent insulin secretagogue and plays a major role in the enteroinsular axis, explaining why plasma insulin levels after oral glucose intake are higher than after intravenous glucose administration.
