Target Information

MERTK (cMER) is a tyrosine kinase proto-oncogene involved in the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) phagocytosis pathway, implicated in human retinal disease. It regulates cell survival, migration, differentiation, and efferocytosis. Ligand binding induces autophosphorylation and downstream signaling through GRB2 or PLCG2, activating MAPK1, MAPK2, FAK/PTK2, or RAC1. MERTK plays critical roles in macrophage clearance of apoptotic cells, platelet aggregation, cytoskeleton reorganization, and inhibition of Toll-like receptor-mediated innate immune responses via STAT1 activation and SOCS1/SOCS3 induction.
