Specificity Comments:
Interleukin-3 (IL-3) is a pleiotropic cytokine secreted by activated T lymphocytes that stimulates proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic cells. It supports growth of pluripotent stem cells and differentiated progenitors, enhances activity of mature cells, and protects mast cells from apoptosis. IL-3 acts through a receptor involved in MAP kinase pathway activation. Upon stimulation, JAK2 phosphorylation occurs, leading to activation and nuclear translocation of Stat5a and Stat5b.

Target Information

Interleukin 3 (IL-3), also known as Mast Cell Growth Factor (MCGF), Multi-Colony Stimulating Factor (multi-CSF), or Eosinophil-CSF (E-CSF), is produced by activated T cells, mast cells, and eosinophils.
IL-3 is a hematopoietic growth factor that stimulates colony formation of erythroid, megakaryocyte, neutrophil, eosinophil, basophil, mast cell, and monocytic lineages. Many of these functions depend on co-stimulation with other cytokines.
Human and mouse IL-3 share only 29% amino acid sequence identity, and IL-3 activity is species-specific (human IL-3 is inactive on mouse cells).
IL-3 promotes proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic cells and may also have neurotrophic activity related to neurological disorders.
