Target Information
CD36, also known as scavenger receptor class B member 3, is a surface protein expressed on macrophages, platelets, and adipocytes.
It plays key roles in lipid metabolism, inflammation, and atherosclerosis.
CD36 recognizes and uptakes oxidized LDL, long-chain fatty acids, and apoptotic cells.
It also serves as a receptor for thrombospondin and mediates cytoadherence of Plasmodium falciparum-infected erythrocytes.
Mutations in CD36 cause platelet glycoprotein deficiency.
Diseases associated include Platelet Glycoprotein IV Deficiency and Coronary Heart Disease 7.
