Product Specific Information

  • For immunohistochemistry (PFA-fixed): incubate antibody for 30 minutes at room temperature.
  • Staining of formalin-fixed tissues requires heating tissue sections in 10 mM Tris with 1 mM EDTA (pH 9.0) for 45 minutes at 95°C, followed by cooling at room temperature for 20 minutes.

Target Information

The cystatin superfamily encompasses proteins containing multiple cystatin-like sequences. Some members act as active cysteine protease inhibitors, while others have lost or never acquired this activity.
There are three inhibitory families in the superfamily:

  • Type 1 cystatins (stefins)
  • Type 2 cystatins
  • Kininogens

This gene encodes a stefin that functions as a cysteine protease inhibitor, forming tight complexes with papain and cathepsins B, H, and L.
The protein contributes to the formation of the cornified cell envelope in keratinocytes and plays a role in epidermal development and maintenance.
Stefins have been proposed as prognostic and diagnostic tools for cancer.
